"an old farmhouse above a hidden valley"

Situated above a hidden valley, backed by mountainsides of forest, Casa Quintino is at the end of a farm road, 1.7 kms from the main road (SP4) : 25 minutes drive from either Volterra or San Gimignano and in the center of the cultural triangle, one hour equidistant from Pisa, Florence and Siena. To the east, it is an easy one hour drive to the long sandy beaches of the Etruscan coast, stretching from Cecina to Piombino, the gateway to the islands of Elba and Giglio. Casa Quintino is situated on the edge of the Parco Benessere (Wellbeing Park) which has been created for healthy holidays.

Gambassi Terme is the center of a lively group of conservationists who organise excursions into the hills and forests to visit hermits caves, ancient aquaducts and old monastries buried in the forest. Whether walking, riding horses or by mountain bike there is plenty to explore along the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrims route to the Holy Land. There is a new spa in the little town of Gambassi as well as at the prestigious Castel Falfi where an upmarket resort has been developed for the rich and famous. This includes a sunset bar overlooking the most beautiful valley in Tuscany, an exotic horizon swimming pool and spa open to the public. see

Casa Quintino is a lovingly restored old farmhouse. It was first built 300 years ago on the site of a hermitage, where monks quarried travertine stone which is made from the mineral deposits in the spring in our garden. The ruin of a little chapel is still on the hill. We have tried to combine the ancient mood of the site, with modern comfort to offer you the deep tranquility of unspoiled Tuscan countryside. It is a haven of peace, with no made made sounds or sights and you will have complete privacy to relax away from it all.

The personal paintings, books, piano, ethnic furnishings, as well as the simplicity of the rough finish appeal most to those who are seeking a genuine getaway from urban sophistication. Casa Quintino is in a charming position with long views over looking rolling hills to Volterra on the skyline. In the evening the moon rise can be seen from the patio, and stars are extraordinary in the deep velvety night where in spring the only sound is the call of the nightingale. It is a nature lover's delight with the birdsong of cuckoos and African hoopoes whilst deer, foxes, porcupines and wild boar regularly visit the ancient spring in the evenings.
Each room has fans and central heating. All windows have lovely long unspoilt views over the valley below across the rolling hills to Volterra. There is one shared bathroom / WC with bath and shower on the top floor, and ashower/wc on the ground floor.

The original animal stalls on the ground floor have been converted into a large cool living room (10 x 4 meters), under a double vault, with large comfortable chairs, sofa down one end, with well equipped dinning room / kitchen on the other side. Two french windows open on the shady patio, with a trestle table ideal for long midday meals, or moonlit suppers.

Also on the ground floor, the large double 'Lamu Room' (5 x 4 meters) has a massive four poster bed, with elegant mosquito net was carved in Lamu Island,East Africa. The view from the bed through the french windows, across the valley, makes this spacious apartment ideal for a romantic getaway. Upstairs two double rooms have similar long views across the valley to Volterra on the horizon.
